Swedish Flower Hens

The Swedish Flower Hen is a true landrace chicken, meaning there is no formal breed standard or rigid breeding program. Instead, these birds were allowed to naturally select over generations, resulting in a population shaped by survival, productivity, and adaptability rather than appearance alone.
This natural selection has produced an extraordinary range of colors and patterns, giving the breed its signature “flowery” appearance—no two birds are exactly alike. The randomness of this selection has also made the Swedish Flower Hen an exceptionally hardy and resilient poultry breed, well suited for free-ranging and variable climates. They are excellent foragers, alert, and thrive in more natural environments.
Our Swedish Flower Hens lay cream to light tan eggs, ranging from large to jumbo, with an average production of approximately 150–200 eggs per year. We do not keep crested lines, focusing instead on strong, traditional landrace traits. Our pullets have started laying around 5 1/2 months old.
In our experience, these are by far our friendliest chicks. They begin congregating for treats directly from our hands at less than a week old and are consistently the first to approach humans, making them a favorite for families and hands-on poultry keepers.
Our Swedish Flower Hens come from multiple established lines to ensure strong genetic diversity, vigor, and long-term flock health. Our original breeding group was sourced from Blue House Farm along with a small, reputable local breeder, giving us a solid and well-balanced foundation. In 2025, we further strengthened our program by incorporating three new roosters from Tim Oliver’s offspring, adding fresh genetics while maintaining breed type and the natural variation that Swedish Flower Hens are known for. This multi-line approach allows us to focus on hardy, productive, and well-marked birds while avoiding genetic bottlenecks and preserving the unique diversity that defines this breed.
